Shropshire Session Coach Course (L1)
Shropshire New Session Coach Course Information.
The new Session Coach (L1) will be run in Shropshire for the first time this summer. It is still aimed at people who want to help their club by teaching beginners and becoming a first level coach. Somethings are the same as the old course and there are elements that are different.
Day 1 – Starting your coaching journey. This day is focused on how to coach and where to go for technical information. This is a departure from what we used to do before but AGB is looking to train coaches rather than instructors. The day is participative, fun and a good introduction to making that transition from archer to coach.
Day 2 – Creating engaging coaching session. This day is mainly given over to understanding the AGB technical model of shooting and how to coach it. We will look at motor skill development and how the drills can be used to teach good technique. This is essential for all coaches but the day is also open to any archers who are interested in finding out more about what good shooting technique looks like. Visitors will only need to pay the price for the day.
Day 3 - Introduction to Technique – This is focused around the structure of the Beginners course and how to manage the introductory session. The course will look at teaching barebow and freestyle to a complete beginner.
Day 4 – Coach Presentations (Assessment) – This is a simplified process and should no longer be a barrier to anybody considering becoming a coach.
As before the aspiring L1 coach will need to complete 12 hours of supported practice, three of which will need to be with their club mentor. They will also have to go through some child safeguarding training and complete a clean DBS check.
All coaches registering to the course will be signed up to Learning Curve so you will need to have either access to a computer or a smart phone. All the resources for the course are now held on-line and you will need to be on Leaning Curve to access them. The good news is that it is free to coaches.
A new element to the course is that Learning Curve contains a number of learning journeys around the Safety Rules, Inclusivity and Equipment safety that you are also required to work through. These can be done at home during the course and are very quick to complete.
