Bowbrook Archer Max Oakley visits a local school to talk about Archery.......
We have been fortunate this week to welcome in some visitors to school to share their knowledge of different sports and to enthuse us with how we can also try new disciplines.

First up, we welcomed Max Oakley, a Y10 student at our of our academy trust schools, the Grove in Market Drayton, who has big ambitions: he is aiming to represent team GB at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics in archery! Taking time out from his training (6 days a week) as well as his studies, Max shared his journey with us and how he had come to be a master at his sport. Max regularly shoots targets from 70 metres away, which must take a huge amount of patience, skill and concentration. He shared that he had tried many sports, but that he just found his thing with Archery. This completely ties in with out vision for PE and school sport; we want our children to experience different sports and activities so that they leave us with one sport or game they want to pursue. Thank you Max for coming and all the best in your training! Here he is with head boy Josh, who is also a keen archer down in Church Stretton.

If you would like to have a go at archery, a couple of opportunities are coming up for our children. Bowbrook Archers (www.bowbrook-archers.co.uk) are hosting a ‘family have a go day’ on Saturday 9 April. Please check out the website for more information, and directions. ‘Start archery week’ is also being held between 14-22 May through Start Archery at various local locations, More information can be found on their website at www.start archery.co.uk.

Grand National Archery Meeting 21st to 23rd August 2021
A Very Successful Weekend!
The Grand National Archery Meeting (GNAM) is shot over for three days. This was the 166th time the event has been held, with a handful of occasions missed owing to war, flooding, and most recently, Covid-19.

GNAM’s usual format is a Double York or Double Hereford for the gents and ladies, respectively. The third day is a Long National, which is shot by everyone. The reason for the third day is to allow the double rounds to conclude in case of bad weather on the first two days, thus allowing the trophies to be awarded. However, if this is not required, a handicap shoot takes place using the GNAM handicap system.

Last weekend saw a number of Shropshire Archers from Bowbrook Archers and Croesoswallt Archers head off to compete, (including Patrick Huston associate member of Bowbrook Archers).

Many trophies and awards were presented:- Yulia Larkins, Lauren Rawlings, Phil Hinckley, Max Oakley, Callum Piggott, Lyn Anderson & Patrick Huston (who also broke 2 UK Records).

Full results can be found of Ianseo, The full list of Trophy and Award winners will be on the Archery GB Website, GNAM 2021 shortly. Congratulations also goes to Michelle Szulc for obtaining her 2nd Master Bowman score and the worst white on Longbow!!
